NEW YORK - December 5, 2008 - Known for beloved and epic holiday events, Macy's is adding a new tradition this season with the premiere of the original special, "Little Spirit: Christmas in New York." Building on the legacy created by its starring role in the classic "Miracle on 34th Street," Macy's partnered with Curious Pictures and Mediaedge:cia (MEC) to develop the new one-hour holiday program that will air on NBC on Wednesday, December 10 from 8-9 p.m. ET. (airs on Telemundo on Saturday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m.). The new "painted" animated special features an all-star cast of voices including Danny DeVito, Lucy Liu, Freddy Rodriguez, Brian Williams and Brenda Song.
With music composed by Tony and Grammy award-winning musician Duncan Sheik, the special features traditional painting with contemporary 3-D technology - creating an aesthetic that is both classic and innovative. Set in New York City, the story tells a tale of a boy named Leo (Michael Hall D'Addario) who moved to Manhattan with his family, where his magical adventure begins. While preparing for Christmas, Leo loses his dog in Central Park. A magical creature named Little Spirit accompanies Leo on his wondrous journey in search of his dog, taking him through the celebratory setting of New York City during the holidays.
"As a company with a rich history of beloved holiday traditions, Macy's was thrilled at the opportunity to collaborate with the talented team at Curious Pictures and MEC to produce Little Spirit: Christmas in New York - a charming and fresh addition to the great holiday classics," said Robin Hall, senior vice president Macy's Parade and Entertainment Group. "Over the last 150 years, Macy's has wowed audiences young and old with our memorable events and our heritage of ushering in the holiday season each Thanksgiving. Now, as the first new animated holiday TV special in many years, we believe Little Spirit: Christmas in New York will captivate kids and adults alike."
"Little Spirit: Christmas in New York" is executive-produced by Macy's Parade and Entertainment Group, Mediaedge:cia and Curious Pictures.
