CLOWNING GLORY

A GAGGLE OF CLOWNS TICKLE THE FUNNY BONES AT THE MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE®

CLOWNS IN TRAINING LEARN THE ROPES AT MACY'S CLOWN U. ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH

New York, NY - November 2, 2009 - Goofy grins and mad dash slapstick return to Manhattan as the clowns in the 83rd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade® start their funny business. On Thanksgiving Day, more than 800 Macy's volunteers will transform into the merry makers of fun and laughter who delight millions of spectators lining the streets of New York City for the big Parade.

To be a clown in the Macy's Parade takes skill and a willingness to go for the silly. From pratfalls to sight gags and everything in between, the Clowns of the Macy's Parade are the procession's clowning glory.

As the only element of the procession that comes face to face with spectators, the Macy's Clowns have a very important job. They are the Parade's ambassadors of fun. To learn what it takes to wear the big red nose, clown trainees get a special lesson in clowning tricks of the trade from the masters of clowning - the stars of the Big Apple Circus.

Tomfoolery is a serious business, no matter what it looks like, that is why all Clowns must earn those red noses at Macy's Clown U. On Saturday, November 14th , Macy's employees and volunteers will gather for a crash course where the holiday high-jinx will be in session and degrees in silly tricks will be up for grabs. Clowning around has never been like this as the professionals teach the amateurs some of the finer points of buffoonery. From Macy's Parade clown etiquette to the art of comedic timing, the stars of the Big Apple Circus will teach the motley crew the serious "do's and don'ts" of the universal clown code.

After receiving their clown stamp of approval, the newly minted clown troupe will report for duty at 6AM sharp on Parade morning to transform into America's favorite ambassadors of holiday fun. After dressing the part, the clowns, now in 25 different groups, will take a ride uptown on the funny bus, gather at Clown Corner and wait for their moment to join the Parade. At the call of Let's Have a Parade™, the clowns will begin their starring role in the holiday extravaganza.
