NEW YORK – August 2009 – This fall, as Macy's and Feeding America serve up an innovative new effort that celebrates the renaissance of cooking at home with a goal of raising 10 million meals for domestic hunger, Macy's National Fashion Office offers great trend direction to ensure all hosts and guests arrive fashionably great.
The "Come Together" campaign will rally customers to host dinners in their homes, but will ask their guests to donate to Feeding America in lieu of the traditional contribution of a dish or bottle of wine. Macy's will match customer donations dollar for dollar until we reach a total of 10 million meals.
To arrive in style, Macy's suggests the following trends are sure-fire wins this fall.
Women's Fashion Trends From Nicole Fischelis – Macy's Fashion Director of Ready To Wear
COME TOGETHER
In a world so divided, fashion Comes Together to reunite and reinvent. Acceptance of all elements of thought, feeling and personal histories are apparent in this trend. With a blending of all fashion concepts, anything goes. Merging schools of thought provides fashion with a fresh point of view, as seen through the fusing of infinite color, and a wealth of pattern and texture. Self-expression is evident, making a statement about the future of fashion in an ever-changing world. With a mélange of berries, plaids and folk-rock chic fashions, an abundance of options Come Together in a stylish melting pot.
WILD BERRIES
Take a bite out of life with the wide spectrum of hues from the berry family. With a mixture of sweet and tart, apparel has a fresh flavor for fall. Emerging with a sense of femininity, berries have replaced the gloomy greys and blacks of the season. Get sweet on all these luscious, freshly picked shades that include eggplant, wine, blackberry, burgundy, plum, beet, raisin and raspberry. Purple has emerged as the color of choice for knit tops with volume, blouses, shifts and sheaths, trench coats and tailored suiting. Prints and fabrics like lace, wool tweeds, velvet, jacquards and paisleys play an important part, adding depth to this fashion landscape.
CITY FOLK
With its roots in traditional folk elements stemming from Eastern Europe, City Folk fuses luxury elements and a rock-chic attitude. All pieces follow a natural trend with earthy hues, ethnic textures, such as paisleys and mosaic patterns, and nature-mimicking prints. Macrame brocades, lace and crochet mixed with embroidery, tassels and mongolian lamb fur, add a touch of luxury to this look. A sense of balance is necessary, and achieved by layering and mixing colors, patterns, and materials, while keeping an overall balance in mind. Standout silhouettes include tie-neck ruffled blouses, vintage denim, peasant tunics, jumpers, maxis, minis and vests.
FOREVER PLAID
Prep school plaid passes the test as fall brings back the reinvented classic in unexpected ways. From macro to mini, and pink to purple, mixing of scale and color puts a spin on the traditional tartan. With a touch of modern glamour, crossing the line from your ordinary flannel shirt into capes, trench coats, pantsuits and tie-neck ruffle blouses is effortless.

WILD BERRIES
Mouth-watering fashions satiate your palette for color this fall. These tasty shades are the perfect fit for a man who is afraid of loud color. Deep saturated pigments of grape, plum raisin and cassis are anchored by chocolate, grey and black. Berry designs like plaid, paisleys and micro-prints can give a monochromatic outfit a touch of color and texture. From turtlenecks and cable v-neck sweaters, to refined plaid sport coats and pants, to neckwear and accessories, men are going wild for berries with these fresh picks for the fall season.
TOWN AND COUNTRY
The outdoors meets uptown with this new style. With plaid being the pattern of choice this season, buffalo and gingham have nowhere to hide. From the mountains to Main Street, chunky knits reinforce the outdoor theme while leather, suede and shearling provide new levels of refinement. Unexpected but undeniably chic, plaids are reworked into a wardrobe via neckwear, quilted outerwear, wovens and toggle coats. Corduroy, when matched with shawl collar sweaters, cardigans, oversized scarves and denim, complete the outdoorsman vibe.
CORPORATE LADDER
Serious times call for serious dressing. As more men try and climb the corporate ladder, dressing the part of an executive becomes vital. With the slimmer fit gaining universal acceptance, this contemporary silhouette is running the show. A new level of sophistication in the workplace is seen, as the onset of cardigans, vests, double-breasted suits, and trench coats is inevitable. Always polished, this look is taken up a notch with refined accessories like pocket squares, cap toes and wing-tip shoes, and tie and collar bars. Subtle plaids, tweeds and herringbone patterning, matched with subdued coloring is the new message.
