Macy's Earns Top Equality Rating

Macy's has received the top rating of 100 percent in the 2008 Corporate Equality Index report sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.

The Corporate Equality Index, which rated 519 businesses, measures the extent to which employers protect their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees. Ratings are based on numerous factors, including non-discrimination policies, diversity training and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees. The Index rated companies on a scale from zero to 100 percent on their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors.

"Macy's is very proud of its 100 percent rating in the latest HRC's Corporate Equality Index," said Bill Hawthorne, Macy's VP/diversity strategies and legal affairs. "Our philosophy of diversity and inclusion recognizes the benefits that diversity brings to our business. This thinking certainly includes our unwavering commitment and support of the GLBT community. We strive to create an environment that encourages and develops the unique characteristics and strengths in every person in our organization."
