FAQs

How do I know if my organization is eligible to receive a grant from the Macy's Foundation or the Bloomingdale's Fund of the Macy's Foundation?
All organizations funded by the Macy's Foundation or the Bloomingdale's Fund of the Macy's Foundation must have a current 501(c)(3) tax exempt status as determined by the Internal Revenue Service. Additionally, the organization must not be classified as a 509(a)(3) or as a private foundation.

Please note that applications for Foundation funding are accepted only by invitation and only via our online application process. We do not accept applications submitted by mail, fax or email.

What are the focus areas that Macy's, Bloomingdale's and the Macy's Foundation support?
Our support is targeted to five focus areas: arts and culture, education, the environment, HIV/AIDS, and women's issues.

What is not funded by your grants program?
We do not make grants to:

  • Individuals
  • Private foundations
  • Fraternal organizations
  • Political or advocacy groups
  • Programs not operating in Macy's or Bloomingdale's communities
  • Athletic teams or events
  • Nonprofit entities not located and operating primarily in the United States
  • Charities whose focus and operations are primarily international
  • Religious organizations (when funding is to be used for primarily religious purposes)
  • Salaries for nonprofit staffing
  • Fiscal agents and other "umbrella" organizations that provide funding to nonprofits

When do you accept proposals?
We accept requests for corporate contributions, event sponsorships, and district grants on a year-round basis. Foundation applications are accepted by invitation only; applications that are invited are reviewed quarterly.

Can I submit a Foundation proposal by mail?
Foundation applications are accepted only via invitation and only using our online application process. We are unable to accept applications submitted by mail, fax or email.

When will I learn about the status of my request?
After your application is successfully submitted, you will receive an email confirmation. After an initial review, you may be contacted for further information. Following the final review of your application, you will receive an email indicating whether your grant request has been approved or declined.

How can I access my online account?
At the beginning of the application process you are required to establish an online account so that you can access in progress and submitted applications, online gift acknowledgment forms, and final results reporting where applicable. When you create your online account initially, you will be sent your online user ID, password and a link to access your online account in an email. For your convenience, we are also providing the link to access your online account here.
