Simultaneous Flower Shows Bring an Early Spring to Chicago, New York, Minneapolis and San Francisco
In New York, the 34th annual Macy's Flower Show transformed the World's Largest Store, Herald Square, into a vast and vibrant landscape of unparalleled beauty and splendor. One of the largest indoor gardens in existence, spanning the entire Main Floor of the Broadway building plus the world-famous windows, it can truly be called "a Wonder of the World." Martha Stewart helped cut a specially crafted ribbon made of live flowers to officially open the floral extravaganza in March.
In Minneapolis, the 49th annual Macy's and Bachman's Spring Flower Show, "Floranova," was a celebration of Latino art, music and botanical gardens. This vibrant show, featured on the first floor and in store windows, included artist David LeBatard (known as "Lebo"), who designed this year's flower show image in his signature, colorful South Beach style. A Latin marketplace, entertainment, and dance added to the beauty of the floral fiesta. "Floranova" also was the theme for Macy's 2008 flower show in Chicago.
In San Francisco, the 62nd annual Flower Show was themed "a Mosaic of Spain" for this year. Visitors experienced a mosaic of Spain's beauty and culture from hidden castles to modern architecture, from the magic of Flamenco dancing to the art of bullfighting to the renowned Guggenheim museum in Bilboa to Gaudi's unfinished cathedral. Macy's Union Square celebrated with lush greens, thousands of blooms, and groves of orange, lemon and olive trees. There were gardens, selections of authentic Spanish foods, accessories and dcor as well as Spanish dance. David George's black-and-white photo exhibit, "A Portrait of Andalusia," was on display for its first public viewing.
